My Friend Sancho by Amit Verma

So I was not intending to pick up "My Friend Sancho" by Amit Verma and I did - purely basis the fact that I read 2 chapters at Turner Road, Crossword and almost liked it. Was it a good buying decision or not? Well it was considering the fact that I finished reading it in almost less than a day and yes I liked it. Moreover, I have always believed that first book writers need to be read, no matter how disappointing the experience might get, because they deserve a reading. And I must also add that the book took me away from my reader's block which I have been experiencing for a while now.

Coming to the plot of the book, its rather simple: It centers around a journalist called Abir Ganguly and his assignment to do a profile on a man who was erroneously killed in a police encounter and how Abir gets to meet Muneeza a.k.a Sancho, who is the dead man's daughter. It is about an unlikely friendship (love even?) that develops between them over cups of coffee, conversation and emotions (running all over the place). How Muneeza gets to be known as Sancho is something you have to read the book for.
I thought the book was well written. It was to the point, funny in places and there were times when I wished it would end soon. I loved the setting - Bombay, well who wouldn't? It's easier to relate to a place in a book that you come from. There is a passion in the writing. There is structure and then there is madness(like the lizard and bra conversation). I would be looking forward to his second book. Hands down, "My Friend Sancho" was a delight. Read it and you will know.

P.S: I loved the cover of the book and not to mention the texture and the font in which the book was written. Okay then!!
